We watched smart, capable people get talked down to, talked past, or flat out left behind. That is the problem the whole cafe is built around.
Not tech for tech people. Plain-English help for normal people, served warmly, five minutes at a time. Come in confused, leave knowing one more useful thing than when you arrived. That is the entire business model, and we are not embarrassed by how simple it is.
We did not read about the AI revolution. We filmed it.
Before How To Cafe reopened its doors, our founder spent two years directing a feature documentary about artificial intelligence: AI Decoded: Creativity or Chaos?, now streaming. Seventy-five interviews with the people actually building and wrestling with this technology: technologists, artists, legal thinkers, ethicists, and business minds.
Two years of asking the movers and shakers the hard questions taught us the biggest lesson behind this cafe: the AI debate stopped being about tools a long time ago. It is about people. And normal people are being left out of the conversation. Every lesson we teach comes from someone who has literally been behind the camera with the folks inventing this stuff.
Meet James Gregson.
James is a director, producer, editor, audio engineer, and hands-on creative with decades of real-world experience across film, television, music, design, and technology. He is not an AI engineer or a computer scientist, and that is the point. He is a working creative who adopted AI tools out of practical necessity, got genuinely useful results, and then spent two years interviewing the experts for AI Decoded.
What he took away from all of it was simple: most people were not getting the plain-English help they needed. How To Cafe is his answer. Around here, he is the guy behind the counter.
